Ascending/Descending Ladder Numbered Notes

This 1973 $1 note is unique as the serial number decreases from left to right, one digit at a time. The other variation is when the serial number increase from left to right otherwise known as an ascending ladder note.

These types of notes are rare because only 10 consecutive ascending/descending notes exist in a regular prefix; consisting of 10 million notes.
