1903 Bank of Ottawa $5 Note

This is a rare bank note, perhaps the finest of five known to survive. Its picture has been widely distributed. This is one of the first bank notes that the current owner had acquired for his collection, almost 30 years ago, while he was still primarily a coin collector. It was purchased in Pembroke, which once had a Bank of Ottawa branch. The Bank of Ottawa was absorbed by the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1919. Many Scotiabank branches in the Ottawa Valley and elsewhere originated as Bank of Ottawa branches.
